Twitter is an online social networking service that enables users to send and read short 140-character messages called “tweets”.

Registered users can read and post tweets, but those who are unregistered can only read them. Users access Twitter through the website interface, SMS or mobile device app. The HQ is in San Francisco and Twitter has more than 25 offices around the world.

Twitter was created in March 2006 by Jack Dorsey, Evan Williams, Biz Stone, and Noah Glass and launched in July 2006. Twitter has more than 500 million users.

Quoakle jumped in early registering some great names on Twitter e.g. @daysout as well as securing geographical names for Gloucestershire towns e.g @stroud_.
Because of our fast start on Twitter we have been able to develop a large following for some of our accounts, e.g. @cheltenham_ had 8,373 followers as of 23rd March 2016. We also have a directory of Gloucestershire businesses and organisations where we only follow Gloucestershire accounts. As of 23rd March 2016, we are following 4,575.
